Yo, Eclipse here. We actually went to Palace for the first time the night this photo was taken. Ironically, it was less than a week after my own car was broken into across the street from my house on the south slope of Bernal. I doubt that a sign like that would do me any good though..

The "Holy Shit" photo was taken on the alley-like stretch of Broadway between Larkin and Hyde, where the street goes up over the Broadway tunnel. This was on the side where it's just sidewalk, no cars allowed. It was scrawled across several walls and homes. Holy shit indeed!

I've caught two people B&E'ing into cars near my apartment (in Nob Hill) within a week of each other. Both times the cops showed up within minutes and caught the guys.

I filled out witness reports and all that, but never any follow up calls from anyone. My guess is that those homeless crackheads got released from jail and were back on the street after a few hours.

I always left my car unlocked when I lived in SF and Oakland. We used to have a lot of kids, especially, that just wanted to break into the car to do it. Leaving it unlocked took away the fun. And if they slept in it, so be it, better than having a window broken. In the end, selling the car was the best idea, though.

And stealing shift stick nobs is as old as cars. My mother used to have hers stolen all the time in 1960s suburbia. Once, while the car was parked in her parents driveway underneath her bedroom window!

"leave my car unlocked"

You are risking having a crackhead or drunk sleep in your car or worse

I used to leave my car unlocked because if I locked it idiots would break the windows and/or slash the convertible top. There was nothing of value in it whatsoever, or so I thought. Someone stole the shift knob! Some other guy stole the owner's manual. Unbelievably the latter crackhead got busted in Pacifica in possession of the stolen manual and the cops returned it to me based on the VIN. There is literally nothing that a crackhead won't steal.

Hey crackhead, how did it feel to do 30 days in County Jail for stealing something completely worthless?

Here's a tip that will eliminate the need to write notes to car burglars: Leave the glovebox open. My car got violated several times before I tried this and it never happened again. It's like magic.

I heard about someone who put one of those signs in his car. Someone broke in and stole the sign.

the holy sh*t graffiti was seen around mason and filbert some time last year. Almost a whole block of was covered with that "slogan" in various sizes of text. There were a few HUGE ones.
