SFist Photo: Fur is Murder in Golden Gate Park

_O8F6549a.jpg
Murder to keep clean, isn't that right girlfriend? This tiny little vixen used to live around the San Francisco Botanical Garden (nee Strybing) in Golden Gate Park. Being a red fox, she is considered to be in the dog family mas o menos, but her species is the most cat-like of all the foxes. Imagine a ten pound housecat with better hearing, much better vision, and the ability to run 45 miles per hour. Foxes have a tough time in the park - some have been hit by cars and others have eaten poison intended for vermin. You might see one around. You'll notice the gorgeous red fur. It'll almost make you want to kill it and use the pelt to make a nice coat, maybe mix in a little endangered leopard or giant panda for contrast. Then you can hang it in the de Young Museum with the others. How nice! [Update after the jump.]

Update. Thanks for your comments. We took that photo from the New Zealand area when the vixen had just gotten rained out from the Primitive Garden's sprinklers.

Haven't seen Greta and her flock lately, but she had five healthy and hungry kids last we saw. She might be going for another set of babies right now. Look for more pied bills next year.

and credit for the picture goes to?

Aw, what a cutie. I had no idea about the foxes. Speaking of animals in GG Park, how 'bout an update on Greta and the fam? That was a great pictorial, and funny. (Mmmm, stickleback.) Loved it!
