SFist Tonight

posey.jpg
-- Using the garbage and junk-drawer debris from oh-my-God real-life celebrities (!), crafty artist Jason Mercier creates jaw-dropping portraits of A- through D-list notables, which range from Parker Posey to Heidi Fleiss. Celebrity Junk Drawer opens tonight starting at 9 p.m. at 111 Minna Galley (at Second St.); admission is free.

-- Dance, get trashed, shove something up your nose in the bathroom, shove something up, um, somewhere elsewhere in the bathroom, have a ball at this iron-hot Thursday weekly. At Tubesteak Connection, Bus Station John mans the decks, spinning disco rarities form the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Get there before midnight, because the place gets packed, and fast. Gay hipsters have yet to (fully) takeover the night, so warm fuzzies are still to be had at this popular Thursday night. The madness starts at 9 p.m. at Aunt Charlie’s Lounge at 133 Turk (at Golden Gate); admission is $3.

-- John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald sing in Stephen Sondheim's Assassins -- a musical about the merry band of (un)successful U.S. President murderers -- at 8 p.m. at Custom Stage @ Off-Market Theater, 965 Mission (at Fifth St.); tickets are $20-$35.

- John Cassavetes Love Streams (1984) is screening tonight at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. We could go on (beautifully yet painfully on and on, a la Cassavetes) about why you should see this, but we’ll just say this: Gena Rowlands. Even if her films were playing in Orinda, we'd still ask you to drop everything and catch her face on screen. Stars at 7:30 p.m. at YBCA, 701 Mission (at Third St.); call for ticket prices.

-- Prog pop outfits Oh My God, Raccoons, and the Faceless Werewolves throw down in the tenderloin. Hear some pop and rock sounds that are not to be missed. 9:30 p.m. at Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk (at Post); admission is $6.

*gasp* !!! Love Streams is my favorite John C. movie.

And we're bummed as all heck that we have to miss it, too. Sigh.

Probably because it's tied up in legal mess in the U.S. and lonnnnng out of print here, you can see some (all?) of it on youtube...

this part makes me laugh and cry

the beautiful, starting to go crazy, Gena Rowlands shows up at her playboy brother's home with a small pet menagerie thinking he'll love all the animals.
