It's easy enough to see how it happened: "Return 9999 if the data's not there, and hope the person getting that number was smart enough to do an if x == 9999 then print 'N/A'" The real question is: Why not use 999 instead of 9999?

Funny. I was out there during the last heatwave and it definitely felt that hot. People were, like, spontaneously combusting when they walked out of the BART station.

Heh. I worked a fireworks show over in Pleasant Hill on Wednesday. It certainly felt that hot while we were building the show.
