Oh No, Ed Jew!: Moonbeam

jew_sm.jpgJust passing along the word from ABC 7 that today is beleaguered District 4 Supervisor Ed Jew's last day to prove up his San Francisco residency to Attorney General Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown.

In other deadline-related Ed Jew news, the other operative date to watch out for is Monday Tuesday July 10, which is the cutoff date for a special election for the seat if Ed Jew resigns. If Ed resigns over the looong July 4 weekend (weird the 4th is on a Wednesday this year, huh?), we have to have a special election in November, but if he waits until after, Newsom can just appoint someone to serve out the remaining three years of Ed's term under section 13.101.5 of the SF City Charter.

We get why the appointed person shouldn't have to run in November if they were appointed in August, but why wouldn't that person be required just to run in the next city election, in March or June or whenever it was we moved the primaries to? (February -- we just checked.)
