iPhone San Francisco Debut

We got these great pictures of the iPhone debut at the Apple Store in Union Square from Matt Johnson, a visiting staffer from our sister site Phillyist. Hope you had a nice time in San Francisco, Matt!

The Chron reports that there were over 200 people in line, but you didn't actually have to wait in line to get one -- the last person in line got in a couple minutes before 6 and came out with an iPhone an hour later.

The picture above is of the first person going into the Apple store at 6 p.m. yesterday. Check out the rest of Phillyist Matt's awesome pictures of the scene here, and after the jump.

Photographs by Matthew Johnson, SkyscraperSunset.com. Thanks again, Matt! Let us know when you're back in town -- we owe you a beer!

Matt reports that the line went up Stockton:

then across O'Farrell:

and then down Powell:

Nuts! Matt also did a little reporting for us, and says that numbers 1 and 2 in line had been there since 6 a.m on Thursday.

And here's person 1 (named Jerry Taylor) getting his iPhone. Taylor was planning on selling the phone as soon as he got it, to cover his rent for next month.

Heh, okay. My omgjesusphone was obtained last night, about 8pm at Stoneridge Mall. Total wait time, three minutes.
