good thing we aren't willing to give the cops a 6% raise and they are cranking up record overtime causing them to burn out.

anyone know how many cops we actually have?

i just found out they have 1 per 229 people in nyc, which means we should have 3384 here just to keep it civil.

Where the hell is Rose? I've been hanging out in the Western Addition for almost three years and I've never heard of it.

I don't know how many total cops we have in this town, but I know they're about 300 officers short of where they'd like to be.

Rose is one of those little east-west alleys in Hayes Valley. It doesn't intersect with Webster on Google Maps, but it does in reality--it's the little street that cuts through the middle of the projects, between Haight & Page.

3 people were also shot to death this morning in SF. One man was found shot to death by police at 16th and 7th streets at 12:18 am, and two men were found shot to death in the Bayview, at 4:30 am.

Also, 1 person was shot to death in Richmond, and two others wounded, and 2 people were shot to death in Oakland.

We need to support the police ... the commuter criminals coming into San Francisco because we don't have resources to nail their asses to the wall have got to be stopped.

Kamala Harris needs to actually prosecute someone. Let's start with the commuter criminals.

I'm confused... this is the second time you have done this. Your article says Alamo square was cordoned off because of a shooting on McAllister... First off, Alamo Square is not on McAllister. Second, the article you link to says the shooting was at 803 Divis (near alamo square).. which google maps says is at divis and fulton.. wtf?

we need to force the supervisors to stop playing games with our safety and to let the cops adopt a zero tolerance process, throw these hoods in jail for life. once they go gangsta, their a'int no saving them, so just keep them off the street and in a place where they can only kill eachother in jail.

of course the supervisors denied the cops a 6% raise. only the sup's can have a 300% raise making a part time job fulltime. they are so credible!

WTF is up with the latest format? I *want* to read the guest comments.

aj, you might have put on the setting "Hide Guest Comments" right at the top of this comment table. Just click "Show Guest Comments" and you're all good.

I personally like the membership setting :D Though I think our profiles should be better. I want people to see pictures, and such.

The guest comments are coming up in a harder to read format (grey, smaller font).

Anyhoo...

Since when does Santa Clara County need twice as many prosecuting attornies working for the County than San Francisco .... and you think that may be part of the reason the criminals are focusing their efforts on breaking into our cars? mugging San Franciscans? Occasionally shooting and killing us? Maybe.

People that let themselves be taken advantage of... will be taken advantage of. San Francisco's Supervisors has basically allowed us to be tied down and gang raped by the rest of the Bay Area (all the way out to Modesto crooks) by letting our public safety go to shit ...

user-pic

The population of Santa Clara County is more than twice as large as that of San Francisco County. Perhaps that explains the reason why they have twice as many prosecuting attorneys?

It's great to know that the same person can post 4 times in one threat under "guest" and essentially pretend to be 4 different posters, agreeing with one another. But unfortunately a common and TOTAL lack of understanding of what branch of the city's gov owns accountability for what issue shows that you're either the same person, or John who is going to over to BFF's Peter Ragone's house early in the morning to post on SFist(oh wait...)

So much of what you (all) are talking about belongs in the hands of police mismanagement and the prosecutor's office. And mostly police labor mismanagement! I mean, how do you feel about a total lack of cops in an area that needs them, but a total overabundance, say, sitting in their cars waiting for someone to drive by with a broken headlight? Easy money, man. Not hard work!

Dearest Kay [15]
Thank you thank you thank you!

oh that was only 3 thank yous, but, you hit on the "guest thing" head on. SO many people are posting as "guest" instead of setting up a profile which takes 2 or 3 minutes. These guests can pretend to be multiple people and post the same thing over and over again.

Maybe I'll select the "members only" option so I don't have to read the ongoing anonymous data smog from them.

1 more murder for SF. A man was stabbed to death on Union and Columbus, in North Beach. Also, 2 more people shot to death in Oakland, and 1 more in Richmond.

Whats the weekend count so far? 4 for SF, 4 for Oakland, 2 for Richmond. And we still have half a day to go.

Psh, yeah just sign the hell up. I'm sure 90% of the guests are frequent visitors / commentators anyway. I hated that brief period where I was 'guest' and couldn't be distinguished from any of the other comments.

I kinda like the idea of guest postings ... it forces folks to think more about the ideas presented and less about personally attacking the person/screen name that posted the idea. With the personal attacks, it kills off ideas from folks that may be the impetus for some great collaborations and compromises. Without the personal attacks, you get a little more free thinking and postings from folks who might not otherwise post.

Of course, SFist.com needs to make a buck at the end of the day, so I'm sure the Guest thing will disappear soon along with the more free flow of good (and sometimes idiotic) thoughts. :)

Where would we be if the Jennifer Sibels and Peter Ragones can post freely in anonymity?

;-D

how many cops do we have in this town kay, since you seem to know so much about their inner workings and how do to do a better job of managing the entire department.

I think the more relevant question may be the caseload and number of crimes. Whereas police in some south peninsula communities probably spend their times fetching cats out of trees, we actually have a plethora of petty and violent criminals that come TO San Francisco from elsewhere along with our own home-brewed riff raff.
