SFist Photo: A Solution to the Parking Problem

Parking woes caused by all those newcomers got you down? Well, put an end to that stress and strife, you ought to live the sporting life. Just park in your front yard. What's that? There's less than six feet betwixt your place and the sidewalk? Then park sideways, as here. Of course you'll need to wait for the cars parked on the street to move out before you can bounce down the curb and be on your way. Or, you can just drive down the sidewalk until you get to a real driveway. Honk your horn a few times and the peds will gladly clear out of your way. Good times!

I love the fact that the SFist team is bringing up relevant issues around The City, transportation. It's definitely been a lively week with the parking garage and Muni discussions. Keep on the great work! Make our blood boil even more!
Parking on the sidewalk is one of my pet peeves since I live in an unregulated street parking part of town, I see old and new cars strung across formally green front lawns of many homes. Now I see residents paved the front lawns to accommodate cars. There should be an ordinance to regulate sidewalk parking. Where is the DPT when you need them (besides street cleaning day)?? I see in many places sidewalks are crumbling under the weight of the cars and SUVs. From my engineering brother, he mentioned that the concrete on the sidewalks structurally doesn’t support the 2 ton weight of most vehicles. How many billions does The City need to fix our infrastructure?? No more cars…. I’ve started to bike to work since Muni and (on some days) Bart are not freakin’ reliable anymore.
Wait until they start selling the Smart car here next year. We'll be seeing a lot more creative parking
This home is on Masonic right by the gates to Ashbury Heights. The parking "pad" was created in the last few years when the new owners removed the stuff in front of the house. Weird.
Actually, this kind of parking is illegal. Cars parked in most residential neighborhoods off-street are supposed to be parked behind garage doors.
I wonder if those readers who advocate ticketing bicyclists who slow down, check for cross traffic, yield as necessary, then proceed without stopping at STOP signs wuould similarly want to ticket the car parked illegally in the picture above? Huh?
Sure... ticket anytime folks are in violation. If they got a problem with the rules, do something about it .. and pay the ticket in the meanwhile. C'est la vie.
there already is an ordinance on the books that prohibits paving over of front yards. At least 25% of the front must be plantable i.e. dirt or lawn etc.
Problem is no one knows about the law and the city seldom enforces it
