Mog's David Hyman

Music geeks are their own breed. Well many breeds to be more precise. SFist loves a lot of different kinds of music, and finding new stuff we like is always a happy experience for us. Since we’re not a hard core music geek we get a little intimidated by record shops and the like. Yet again, the world wide web may save us and anyone else who likes music. Or so says David Hyman of MOG, an online community where you can find people with similar tastes and then find out what they like. New finds abound. Oh, and David’s not just the founder, he’s a user too.
Are you a music Junkie?
Very much so.
What kind of music do you like?
Too hard to categorize. I’m a huge Dylan/Neil Young fan, but also am getting way into some incredible hiphop that’s just coming out from The Clipse and Jdilla. You can actually check out my entire digital music collection on my MOG page.
Why do music junkies need a devoted site?
Besides religion and sports, I can't think of anything that brings people together more powerfully than music, so it seemed like a devoted website was in order.
How is Mog different from other social networking sites?
For one thing, we’re all about music, which means that is almost all anyone is talking about on MOG. You just don’t find a lot of the self-promotional cheese that you find on other social networks. We also have some pretty powerful technology that helps you find other people with the same musical taste. Once you find the people, you can browse their music collections, receive music recommendations based on what MOG knows you’re listening to, listen to MP3s, and watch music videos. You can purchase music you discover on MOG too.
Besides Mog, what's your favorite social networking site?
I’m a high-end audio geek, so I hang out in those forums.

Question you'd ask if you were doing this interview:
Beatles or Stones?

jdilla is dead you numbskull!!!1! He was producing incredible tracks since the mid 90's, so he's not necessarily an up and comer. For a hipster music recommending dude who spends "hours [online] everyday posting about music" you would think that the MOGster would know about my boy jdilla's unfortunate passing.
Name dropping will hopefully get people to buy his reissues and help J's mom out. So keep it up, just get yr facts str8.
Dilla changed my life. He will be sorely missed. As you can tell Iz still bitter.
haha I was just about to post the same thing about Jay D. "Incredible hiphop that's just coming out." Get a clue. Dude's been dead for a while.
i am well aware that j dilla is dead.
you guys are not getting the unreleased jdilla tracks that i am. so, i DO have new j dilla coming out.
