Free BART Tix

Okay, we're not sure how this is going to play out, but: apparently BART is giving away free tickets at Justin Herman plaza today at 1:30. (Just in time for the lunch crowd to have left.) According to someone -- the Chron doesn't cite sources -- they're hoping that a $5 bribe is all it'll take to get people to give up their cars, and ride BART into the city. Of course, once they're here, they'll have to contend with a Muni system that can barely get them anywhere -- but hey, free BART! You can maybe get more details by watching something called "Bart TV," if you can be bothered.

And here's what will happen: the word will spread up to Sixth and Market and the TL and all of the freeloaders will flock down to JHP and, like pigeons on a pile of stale bread chunks, will swoop, stomp, and shove their way to nab a BART ticket they will later sell outside of the station.

There goes our money: again.

Why not just burn the shit?

Is it worth $1.50 and a 80 minutes roundtrip walk/riding the unpredictable N-Judah for a free $5 BART ticket? And then there will probably be a long line to wait. No thanks.

Well, it started off as chaos with folks swarming around the poor guy sent to hand out the free $5 BART tickets. Some lady screamed "Stop touching me!!!" and that seemed to give everyone a clue that a new system was needed before a catastrophe occurred.

A walkway was used as a queue, and folks relatively peacefully lined up for the free BART ticket.

Did they reach their target audience? Doubt it ... maybe they should've handed them out at freeway offramps or something.

That's actually not a bad idea: hand them out at toll booths on the bridges.

Hey, that reminds me. I signed up months ago for a free BART ticket from either 511.org or commute.org... must have "gotten lost in the shuffle"
