Cathay Pacific's 7 Hour Delay

cathaypacific.jpgWe feel kind of bad posting this, because we really do love Cathay Pacific (comfy seats, good service, decent food, and they also sponsored the Asian-American and the SF Int'l Film Fests), but news is news: they had a plane stuck for seven hours at SFO Tuesday morning. The flight, with 400 passengers aboard, boarded around midnight, and was scheduled to take off for Hong Kong at 1:20 a.m., but ended up sitting on the tarmac until 7:30 a.m., when it was finally scrapped for mechanical problems.

Passengers reported there was no food or water and no information about the delay, while Cathay Pacific claimed everyone was happy and sleeping like lambs. They did let some folks off at around 4 a.m. to get juice, but only 50 people left. (You know the other 350 people were like, "as soon as I leave, this plane is taking OFF!").

And, because we can't do anything without mentioning Oh No Ed Jew around here, we'd like to note: we think this is probably the flight Tapioca Ed took on his escape to China last month. Ed could have just gone home to Burlingame if this were him!

According to my calcuations there are 6 hours between 1:30 and 7:30. Cheers~

The United computer system was also out of service this morning and all flights were delayed. The United terminal is a complete mess. My flight to LAX was cancelled and I rebooked on a flight to Burbank to try and make my 11:00 meeting in socal, but the Burbank flight ended up being delayed so late that I just cancelled my whole trip and am back home in San Francisco.

That's no good about United (though always good to stay in San Francisco).

On the 6 or 7 hour debate, I think the Chron's seven hour estimate is based on the fact that people boarded the flight at midnight.

They got juice?!
