SFist Photo: The Partridge Family of San Francisco
They are well matched to the ground cover. From left: Shirley (the mother), Keith, Laurie, Danny, Chris, and Tracy take a break after foraging for food at the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park.

Wait a minute, these babies are actually newly-hatched California Quail, smaller cousins to partridges. So c'mon, get happy, because we don't have too many representatives of California's state bird left in S.F. Why's that? Well habitat destruction and "feral cat fans and off-leash dog lovers" for starters. Will S.F.'s population of wild quail come back to the level we had back in the day? Let's hope.

Where in the Botanical Garden was this photo taken? Thanks.
If anyone knows the answer to Joanna's question, please keep it to yourself. Sorry, Joanna -- you're probably OK, and I feel bad about my suggestion, but you would not believe the kind of kooks who are out there and would either intentionally or accidentally harm these quail. I'm pretty sure that one of them is an occasional poster here and I'd be willing to bet that others lurk.
um, wow. scary thought....
