--The heart of rock and roll is still beatin' -- at Stern Grove this afternoon. It's HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS!!!! The free show starts at 2, but we assume folks'll be lining up pretty early, beach towels and folding chairs at the ready. Stern Grove's at Sloat and 19th.

--The Chinese Cultural Center screens White Tower, a documentary about deaf culture in China's Henan Province. 1 p.m., $6, 750 Kearny 3rd Floor (x Washington, inside the Hilton), screens with Modern Fortress Besieged.

--The Oakland Opera presents the matinee performance of "Great Moments in American History" -- scenes from two new operas they're working with, both about the civil rights movement. Dark Water, about SNCC civil rights workers in Mississippi, and The Panthers, about Oakland's Black Panther movement. 2 p.m, $20 advance /$24 door, 201 Broadway in Oakland.

--The SF Public Library hosts a reception for Bay Area jazz photographer James Knox from 2-4 p.m., to celebrate the opening of his photography exhibit in the African-American Center of the Main Library. 100 Larkin (x Grove).

--Last day of the Robogames! Watch gadgets fight it out at Ft. Mason from 12-7 today. $20.

--And at CounterPulse, dances about women coming out, by the Blythe Eden Dance Company. $18, 8 p.m., 1310 Mission (x 9th).
