We Read The Weeklies

sfbg314.jpgLast week's winner, as picked by SFist Sarah -- the Bay Guardian! Steven T. Jones takes over the opening editorial from Tim Redmond this week. It does not mention Burning Man! Recalls go too far. Club 6 -- still open. Why can't the Chron make money? Now serving at Cafe Gratitude: "I Am....Sued." San Francisco water may be causing rashes. Thank goodness Ed Jew doesn't have to worry about that! (okay, to be fair, we're sending the water all over the area so it might be in the Burlingame system too). Cover: Marke B's Club Guide, a glossy insert. Cute picture of bears! (picture not online.) Goth band comes to town. K Records founder Calvin Johnson has a retro haircut. And Frameline! Oh yeah -- and vote for us for best blog in the Best Of!

Next up? Oh, let's say the SF Weekly. Everyone loves Eliza Strickland! Matt Smith is enjoying blogging, we think. Ticketing bikes who run stop signs. Cover article: Summer movies (including Frameline and Sicko). Reminiscing about the Bouncer's tribute to Huey Lewis and the mentally challenged! Meredith goes to Glen Park, and only gets a little mocking from SFist Ced in response. This band Gang Gang Dance sounds pretty decent. Oh, and if you're a "rocker mom," some TV show is holding auditions. Moms must have bands. Cha cha cha!

After the jump -- the East Bay Express, the San Jose Metro, the Weekly of the Week, and the tally for the year!

The East Bay Express: The EBX gets a table of contents. Aaaaaaah! How awesome is the new EBX crime blotter!!! We are so jealous -- how did we miss the guy trying to pour pee on UC Berkeley cops for the blotter of our own? Next: Is taking the husks off corn rape? Cover article: a local band manager. Frameline. Aging and petite sirahs. I Like Eating tries to embrace noses ("I'm trying to draw better. Like (dream cartoonist) Jesse Reklaw." Aw, we love your drawings, I Like Eating!!). And they thought the Arcade Fire rocked.

And the SJ Metro: More on that CIA renditions company in San Jose. Gary Singh muses on the San Jose of his youth, again. Annalee Newitz on Google Street Maps. New Internet radio model. They actually enjoyed the new Mr. Jessica Simpson (or did they break up again?) concert! San Jose Metro! Bite your tongue! Palo Alto Burmese. And the Sopranos ending was frustrating.

Weekly of the Week: Well, the Metro is out of contention because they liked John Mayer's show. And of the three remaining, we think it's gotta be the EBX. That crime blotter is GREAT -- and we thought the noses in I Like Eating were cute! Also, we had no idea people had opinions on when to husk corn.

YTD count: YTD count: SF Weekly: 7, SFBG: 7, EBX: 7, Metro: 3.
