And the hits keep on coming! The Chron reports that when they stopped by Ed Jew's City Hall office yesterday, some wag had taped a "Gone Fishing" sign to the door. Fish do love tapioca, we hear.
Meanwhile, Peskin really thinks Tapioca Ed needs to go: "This is a stain and it's making the operation of government very difficult. I'm worried that the residents of the Sunset are being denied an effective voice at City Hall and the longer this drags on, the worse it is for everybody." Ed's lawyers refuse to let him resign, though, saying it would be tantamount to an admission of guilt. But it's perfectly okay by them for him to keep commuting in from Burlingame? Can't they work out some kind of plea bargain here?
The Chron's editorial page, meanwhile, breaks out the big guns and says Ed should resign, along with a mocking cartoon. We probably would have gone with some kind of no water theme on this comic, but that's a minor quibble.
And the New York Times gets in on the game too! They've got Tapioca Ed's lawyers explaining that Ed turned himself in in Burlingame because "it was more convenient." Why do they even let anybody associated with the Ed Jew team talk to anyone these days?
Video still of Ed Jew's door (without the "Gone Fishing" sign, alas), from ABC 7.

this is a great quote by peskin:
The board president, Aaron Peskin, said although Mr. Jew was presumed to be innocent, “his continued presence on the board is eroding San Franciscans’ confidence in their government.”
if the rumors are true about tossing daly off the budget committee, my respect for him as a supervisor and leader will go through the roof.
very interesting things afoot!
Ed needs a new lawyer.
By now a competent one would've slapped duct tape over the mouths of him and anyone associated with him.
Now I'm confused. If this whole saga really is one big misunderstanding and Tapioca Ed really is innocent and really does live on 28th Avenue like he and his attorneys keep insisting, then why would giving over more information to Dennis Herrera's office be self-incriminating?
And if he really does live on 28th Avenue, then why would driving 18 miles down to Burlingame more convenient?
Arson, filing false documents, perjury, election fraud, stealing water, bribery...does he have to kill someone to lose his seat. JESUS!

That quote could equally apply to just about every member of the BoS.
His attorney, Bill Fazio must be some sort of sadist.
Prodding Ed to go into work after turning himself in and having to post bail, and then carry on like it's business as usual, so as not to be "admitting any guilt".
Lawd on high! How does one sit through a Board of Supervisors meeting next to this "Wandering Jew" and not just be there thinkin'
"Ehhhh....my....Gawwwd....."
The Mayor needs to dump Supervisor Jew off the Board of Supervisors since he can't very well do it himself without making it look like he's even more guilty (than he already appears to be).
The call is pretty obvious at this point, Mayor Newsom. Appoint someone who can focus on governing for the Sunset District rather than his personal affairs.
Apparently Newsom gets to skip the by-election, and get a permanent Gavbot until end-of-term, if Ed hangs on until mid-July (120 days before the election). No doubt Gavy is calling down to Burlingame a lot to keep his spirits up.
From M&R:
"City Hall insiders, however, said Jew's pending arrest will probably increase pressure on Mayor Gavin Newsom to refer Jew's case to the city's Ethics Commission and Board of Supervisors, which have the power to remove him from office.
But if that happens, it may wait until after July 10 -- 120 days before the next scheduled election. That way, under the City Charter, Newsom could appoint a successor without having to call a special election. "
