So bloggers might not have been able to turn Snakes on a Plane into the hit they thought it would be but that doesn't mean they don't have any power. Due to fan protests fueled by the blogs, the NFL will let Mike Nolan wear suits on the sidelines for all eight home games next year.
Nolan had wanted to wear a suit since becoming the Niners coach to honor his father but ran afoul of the NFL's licensing rules. You can't have people just wearing clothes all willy nilly without having some sort of logo on it after all. After some discussion last year, Nolan was allowed to wear it for two games last season (and looked pretty darn sharp too we might add) but after an internet campaign was waged, the NFL acquiesced and will allow him to wear the suits-- designed by Reebok of course with their logo tastefully splashed somewhere.
Niners fans were actually planning on staging a protest at the home opener by wearing suits. Somehow, we don't see Raiders fans doing the same thing.

Over at the sfgate Niner blog, Kevin Lynch said something about fans converting the protest into a celebration and wearing suits to the home opener in solidarity with Nolan. Kind of like growing a solidarity beard during the Warriors playoffs.

In other news, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has petitioned the league for the right to wear full Hell's Angels biker gear, face paint, and a studded collar for their home games.
