SFist Tonight

Geek out! At Ask a Scientist SF, a monthly lecture slash happy hour with a guest speaker on some sciencey topic. This month's meet-up touches on everything you ever wanted to know about terra incognita, Antarctica, with Kurt Cuffey, a UC Berkeley professor of geography. Get there by 7pm to snag a beer and a seat. Axis Cafe, 1208 Eighth St., SF.

If Le Tigre and The Shangri-Las had a British love child, it would be The Pipettes. Catch the trio in their Bay Area debut, first at Amoeba Music (1855 Haight St.) at 7pm and then again at 9pm at the Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell St). The Amoeba show is free and $13 gets you in the door at Rickshaw Stop.

John Hemingway gives a talk on Ernest Hemingway, at Booksmith. He'll be reading and signing copies of his memoir, Strange Tribe: A Family Memoir, a tale about the relationship between Ernest and his son Gregory, the author's father. 7pm, 1644 Haight St., SF.

Home Queer Home, a cabaret exploring the transient culture of queer and home with stories from writers, dancers, singers and artists from around the country. 7:30pm, at the LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St.

More films on tonight as part of the 4th Another Hole in the Head Film festival. Line-up as follows: Drawing Outside the Lines, a series of shorts exploring the space where animation meets live action at 5:15pm; The Last House in the Woods, a hardcore Italian horror film at 7:15pm; and Stagknight, a British horror film with sex, drugs and guns to spare. Tickets and more info here, all shows at the Roxie theater, 3117 16th St., SF.
