I live in San Francisco and I am tired of the Supervisor’s wasting my tax dollars and their time on issues where they have no control. Please post this help us get San Francisco back. Historically you’ll see that the Blue Angels have an excellent safety recorded and the FAA and US Navy take every effort to protect the pilots and the spectators. The pressure to cancel the Blue Angels is coming primarily from special interest groups not San Francisco residents. Keep in mind that Fleet Week generates over $4 million in revenue for the city annually.

In addition to safety Code Pink sites “fuel waste” as an issue. We would save more fuel and energy if everyone in the city used energy saving light bulbs than an annual 2 day air show. See link below. Buy am energy saving light bulb and spend your on educating American’s on that issue. The airhsow is not only a point of pride for citizens also for the men and woman in the arm services. This is chance from them to display their professional excellence with honor.

This policy is being considered and introduced by Chris Daly (Chris Daly | chris.Daly@sfgov.org 415-554-7970) NEXT WEEK, therefore please take just a moment and email your Daly and the Supervisor today. Additionally, take a few moments and email this to your friends, family and co-workers. If you’re not a resident please email the Mayor.
Keep in mind we don’t have any special interest groups to help us this is entirely a grassroots effort. If you want to save the Blue Angel’s please act today and encourage others to do so as well.
Thank you,
Adam

EMAIL TEMPLATE
It is best to put these type if letters in your own words but feel free to use this template. Also use your contact information so you’re identified as a real person and not spam.

****
I want the Blue Angels to continue to perform at Fleet Week as they have for years. In addition to clear economic benefits of the event this is an annual tribute which I have enjoyed with my friends and family for years. Please do not let special interest groups take away one of the most unique events in San Francisco.
Thank you.

Norma, you are supposedly a "longtime liberal." Whatever that means these days. Yeah, people can and do call themself anything these days whether they are or not.

When the truth be told the Democrats are a huge embarrassement to THEMSELVES and I'm speaking in particular about the Bush-enablers in DC who have helped Dictators Bush and Cheney for the last 7 years accomplish much of their goals. Many people refer to the Dems as "spineless." They're not spineless. They know exactly what they're doing in their continued attempt to help Dictator Bush while posturing, pretending, putting on a charade to fool people (like you perhaps?) that they are somehow some sort of "opposition" party. Bunk! In reality, the pro-war, pro-corporate and pro-imperalistic Democratic Party is a branch of the pro-war, pro-corporate and pro-imperalistic Republican Party. Period.

I support Chris Daly, although I do not agree with defunding the Friends of the Urban Forest. That is a big mistake.

Really, what they need to do is actually tell the police to arrest people who are committing actual crimes in public. Better yet, actually ask the DA's office to prosecute crime. That might help. It's a little better than it was under Hallinan, but not much. I do agree that we need more cops because of the crime, but really the problem is that the SFDA's office still can't seem to figure out how to prosecute people who, like, kill other people. So forgive me if I am skeptical about how they will prosecute quality of life crimes when they can't seem to get off their butts to prosecute actual murderers.

Regardless, Daly is a joke.

Kay,

Your last post ignores that fact that while the budget has increased, the number of officers out on the street is still well below voter mandated levels. Extra money without extra bodies can't be expected to make too much of a difference. That's the whole point of putting money in the budget for new academy classes.

So I agree that throwing money at the problem doesn't solve it, but I think that in this case the money is targeted at a solution that should make a significant impact.

I wish someone would just lock Newsom and Daly in a room and not let them out until they find a compromise on this. It's absurd for them to name-call and grandstand through the press just to make each other look bad, when the whole point is to make SF a better place.

Do you guys actually realize how the process of police accountability works? Because I'm strongly doubting it. Do your job, you'll get rewarded... not lobby, whine, complain, sit in your car and ticket bicyclists, get rewarded. Incidentally, you guys happen to forget that during Daly's tenure as budget chair, the money allocated to the police budget has increased by 33%. Did it help? Please draw your own conclusion as to whether yet another increase will help or not. The "who is to blame" structure of the anti-Daly argument is getting olllllld, and sadly, it's very misleading about how the city is operated.

daly is to blame for the increased crime, homelessness, and every other ill in the city. he's been in office for 7 years and he's a walking disaster. it's time to get rid of him and give someone with a bit more common sense and a college degree a chance to run the city. if not, lets strip the supervisors of all their power so any mayor can actually do his/her job. the current system is broken when one dickless supervisor can ruin our city the way he has.

Yeah, we have a hugely rising crime rate and people getting shot in the Western Addition almost every day, but no, of course we don't need more police officers or more police training! Let's have the city impeach George Bush instead! (Not that I'm against impeachment. But by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors? Come on.)

I'm a longtime liberal, but people like Chris Daly are a huge embarassment to Democrats the way George W. Bush is an embarassment to Republicans.

Alright, agreed. The overtime that's due to understaffing is costing the city more than it should. And I would say, sure, hire more cops, makes sense. But when I walk past Webster on Haight street and see -explicit- signs of crack dealing, not to mention some folks are just too intimidated by that block to even walk that way, and then I get to Steiner and Haight and see two cops sitting in their car doing nothing, I get right back to my point. I know it's not black and white. But it's not like they aren't FULLY aware of where the problem is!

One time, feeling kinda ballsy, I suggested that there is some funny business going on around there that they should check out. I believe the threatened to take me in for public intoxication (it was 10pm...what am I, 60? I'm not.)

When Newsom made such a budget issue last November during his backing of Rob Balck you know the guy the one Newsom said "only Rob Black thought Rob Black could win"Or how about that time he told Alex Touke that he would give him 15 grand not to say anymore? That dude(Newsom)has more issues than Yogo or tenderknob what ever you are calling your self these troll day's.But non of the issues are productive for the What is expected of a Mayor for San Francisco.

Actually, for the record, the Tenderloin Housing Clinic does not stand to gain ONE PENNY from the $28 million affordable housing supplemental. We're in the business of managing leased hotels for homeless people. We don't build new housing, which is where the money will go to.

I've been working my ass off calling out Newsom on his disgraceful action, and I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do. But meanwhile, various non-profits who DO stand to benefit from the money aren't lifting a finger. And I simply don't get it why they're not calling out the Mayor on this bullshit. That's the real story.

So fascinating how everyone jumps at the chance to Daly bash (I'm not necessarily a fan) yet noone has mentioned the real culprit: the so-called Mayor. Fed up with litter filled, pothole riddled streets? Sick of the crime/ homicide rate that is up? Homelessness (don't get me started - we've had an increase in my neighborhood - so much for Care Not Cash)?
TIRED of PR driven, scripted photo ops?

Let's start a real discussion, OK???

Also, this alleged budget surplus has become a political football on both sides. Rather than figuring out whats best for the city with the limited resources we have, both sides are trying to make the other look like the devil incarnite, score cheap political points, and take no prisoners. There has to be some way to take a step back sit down and work it out. Trying to win at all costs does not benefit the city. Both the boards, and the mayors ideas to spend the money have merit......

Sorry Kay and rzu, I have to respectfully disagree. While your point is valid about better policing, they are still understaffed, and the two are not mutually exclusive. We have to bring it up to full strength, and with people like Theresa Sparks now at the helm of the commission, I am optimistic that a fairer force is on the way..., but lets get all of the positions filled.
Also, J, we DO NOT need to be able to carry guns, that is crazy...... those guns will get into the wrong hands, I am assuming it was tounge in cheek, but if not, you need to rethink that... we are not in post nuclear Jericho....

What I have a problem with is Mayors who are too chicken-shit to veto a $28 million housing bill (even though they disagree with it), because the Board of Supervisors passed it by a veto-proof majority. So they decide to simply refuse to spend the money, which is borderline illegal.

Now who's talking about playing "political games"?

There's a disconnect - the hint that many folks don't realize the police are on our side, enforcing our laws that we've agreed upon (by proxy of a supervisor or otherwise). If you don't think the laws are right, change them.... don't say "stop going after little fish." Fairness demands they go after every size fish, but they don't have the staffing to do it .. .thus we have folks gambling (with pretty good success) on shooting us to death and stealing from us with little worry of being caught or serving time if they are caught.

Rhetoric? Is a 50% staffed traffic patrol a potential reason why folks drive excessively fast in the City and end up injuring or killing bicyclists and pedestrians almost weekly in the City, is that rhetoric?

Are the recent shootings in Districts 5 and 6 rhetoric?

Are you hinting that the police should ignore enforcing some laws that we as a community have decided to have in place and only enforce those they feel like enforcing? If those "least intimidating fish" laws aren't important, name them and work to have those laws undone .... don't tell the police to ignore some laws but enforce others.

We need more police. Otherwise, we need to be able to carry pistols to protect ourselves. Which would you prefer? More police or everybody packing guns (not just the criminals who cherry pick the City for muggings and killings, going home to sleep just fine without thinking twice of the horrible violence they commit since our police force is understaffed)?

Rhetoric is talking smack with no facts to back it up.

This rhetoric is getting old, J. We don't need more police. We need the existing police to get out of their cars and start doing their job. They need to stop going after the smallest, least intimidating fish possible, and start paying attention to what's important.

Any random shootings in SOMA this week? Any 80-some year olds run over by excessively fast drivers on 19th Avenue? Any gang murders in the middle of Donut World on 6th and Market?

Meanwhile, Chris Daly wants to say we don't need more police or the Community Justice Center?

Reminds me of a Hall 'n Oates song .. "Out of Touch, OUt of Touch.... "
