Gorilla Suits

gorilla.jpgSounds like Sunday's Great Gorilla Race in Golden Gate Park was a success! The 4.3 mile race, run by people in gorilla suits to raise money for gorilla conservation, raised over $100,000. Four hundred people showed up, and given that there's only about 700 gorillas left living in the wild, that's almost a ratio of two gorillas per person.

Okay, we're lame, but we are deeply enjoying the description of the race in this Chron article: "I wanted to be Al Gore-illa, but the Al Gore mask didn't work over the gorilla mask" is the quote of the day. Other gorillas of note included a gorilla dancing to SexyBack, a gorilla wearing a Viking helmet, and hula-hooping gorillas, among many others. Gorillas are awesome.

Check out the Chron's pictures, the pictures on Flickr, and YouTube, but also check out this picture we got from reader Joe! (Yes, the same Joe as yesterday's gorgeous bulldozer on the beach picture.) His caption: "Creationism debates evolution in Golden Gate Park on Sunday."
