As a NY-er about to visit SF, I believe I will feel at home in your fair city with the public transport ankle-biting little shits.

I thought it was only a NY thing when I watched a 6 year old kid knowingly pour a can of Coke -the whole thing- on the lady next to him.

Noting which lines to avoid when, so I can enjoy my vacation :)

Public schools almost have to use MUNI for any fieldtrips because getting a bus costs a couple of grand, which of course most public schools can't spare on local transportation.

Once I had to chaperone a fieldtrip of about 80 high school freshmen to SF State on the M train. Even with the other chaperones and short ride, it was insane. It was an experience I hope to never have to repeat.

When I first moved here many many years ago, I worked downtown and lived near 30th/Church, taking the J Church every day. I remember being righteously pissed off that the driver would sail by that stop if kids were there.

And then I guess the shift bid happened, a new driver took that run and he stopped for the kids. At that point, I wished MUNI could legalize canings to deal with some of the little assholes.

Any trip you are planning on the 38 Geary should be delayed during the time that school lets out.I dread riding the 38 at this time of day.But sometimes I have to go to the VA hospital and my only means of me getting there (outside of a taxi$$$)is the 38.

On my way to a Giant's game early this season, I rode the N Judah (RIP N Judah past Embarcadero) to the game, sitting in every seat was a small french child. Each was about 8-12 years old. Each was dressed in a way American children would not be caught dead. They were noisey and giggly speaking french, but not shriking or yelling. They were also happy and respectful of their chaperones. They kinda freaked me out.

How 'bout when one of the "youts" (nod to Joe Peschi) will run to catch a train in one of the Metro stations and hold the door for friends whose pants have actually fallen down. That's one of my favorite urban fashion observations: watching a youngster run while apparently holding his junk so his skirt, er, jeans don't hit the ground. Cuz that would be embarrassing, right? Much more so that him doing the gotta-pee shuffle.

It WOULD be nothing BUT funny, except the train door protests with its lovely ear-piercing squeal for the entire 15 seconds the Droopy Drawer Convention takes to catch up. While the driver screams over the intercom to clear the doorway.

Good times.

I had this experience on the subway before the Chinese New Year parade. Surrounded by 30 kids dressed as pigs with rouged cheeks and bells on their ankles. It was festive to say the least.
