General consensus is that the whales have disappeared off into the ocean as mysteriously as they came. Possible next stop on their itinerary: the feeding areas near the Farallon Islands. We'll keep you posted if they turn up again.
But that doesn't mean we can't relive the excitement of their short visit. Friend of a friend of SFist, Jennifer Messineo at the Dept of Fish and Game, snapped some nice close-up pix of the pair and graciously let us post them. Thanks Jennifer! Ah, memories.

Those whales didn't just swim out to sea! In the middle of the night, when no one was watching, a Klingon starship decloaked and beamed those whales on to the ship. Then Capt James T Kirk and crew flew back to the 22nd century to save mankind! It's true! I saw it on DVD!
