Kenneth Eng Arrested

columnist_sig_kenengsig1.jpgKenneth Eng: remember him? "Why I Hate Blacks" and the weird dragon fetish? Well, after he got fired from his columnist gig at San Francisco's Asianweek, we've gotten quite a bit of news updates about him -- his YouTube clips, his weird statements after the Virginia Tech tragedy, and, most intriguingly, a copy of the book proposal he was shopping around -- but we decided as an editorial matter we weren't going to run anything else about the guy because he didn't deserve the attention. (which is why we're not giving you links to any of those news items as well.)

However, we are pleased to pass along the latest news about Eng: He's been arrested. He was arrested in Queens a week or so ago for threatening to kill a neighbor and her dog, going up to the neighbor and saying, "if your dog bites me, I'll kill you and your family," and then swinging a hammer at her.

Sounds like Eng's been locked up in a Queens jail, without bail. We must admit we feel much safer in the world as a result of this.

If I may quote from myself (March 6):

"This guy is exhibiting some seriously delusional megalomania. He's got this whacked out world view that he's pretty confident in, seemingly . . . and I am seriously afraid of what he'd do should this symbolic reality he's constructed shatter.

Whether we're talking a Columbine thing or just self-destruction, I hope people are keeping a close eye on Eng. And I'm glad he's on the other side of the country."

I hereby double that statement.

I had a feeling this was going to happen -- sooner or later.

The bigger question is -- why the fuck did Asian Week ever hire him in the first place? I mean, seriously.

There is "crazy", and then there is actually being crazy. Eng is the latter -- he is at a minimum delusional and possibly a borerline schizophrenic.

SFist made the right call on not throwing any more snark his way with the other links. The guy needs serious help.

I would think in a big city like New York it's pretty hard to be stuck in jail without bail on an assault charge.

If he does get sprung from jail, his neighbors are probably going to be moving...

Now would probably be an excellent time for the state to make some arrangements for him that are sensitive to his state of mind.

In light of the tenor of the incident described above, I would recommend that commenters here exercise tact and euphamism. Mr. Eng has been known on occasion to respond to his online critics, particularly females, with a personal attention one might call "zealous."

Now that I know about how crazy he is, I'm really wondering why people took the whole racism rant seriously. Once he mentions the evolutionary supremacy of dragons, I'd think it'd be a clue he doesn't represent the Asian community at large.

The bigger question is -- why the fuck did Asian Week ever hire him in the first place? I mean, seriously.

Because AsianWeek is owned by the Fang family, who are a bunch of corrupt slimebags with absolutely no ethics or journalistic standards.

why the fuck did Asian Week ever hire him in the first place?

Because Asian Week is run by the Fang family, who are longtime political power brokers in the Bay Area and major scumbags. They owned the San Francisco Examiner for a while and they ran it into the ground. They have other priorities besides something so silly as actual journalistic ethics and standards.

at least i hide at home when i feel blue, and don't act out my depression against other people.
