We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. Here are our favorite nibbles from today's offerings.
San Francisco Chronicle: The gorge-gorge weather makes it easy to imagine all sorts of picnics, in various Bay Area locales. Dolores Park, Eastshore State Park, oysters and beer at Angel Island, Mount Diablo and more get the nod. Even picnic gear has gone green with items like bamboo plates and corn starch cutlery. What to serve? How does citrus-garlic chicken, curried potato salad with peas, or grilled lamb fattoush sound?
San Jose Mercury News: Snack on homemade clam or carmelized onion dip. Meat and veggie skewers are ideal for Memorial Day partays. Serve with pita and cooling tzatziki, an addictive Greek yogurt sauce. To avoid splinters & burning, soak wooden skewers in water before grilling.
Contra Costa (CoCo) Times: Vegans and apparently "meatatarians" will appreciate People's Donuts, which is six weeks old and based in Berkeley. The owner, Josh Levine, has had marriage proposals and other "exclamations of love." Even a group of meaty construction workers gobbled every last crumb before finding out the goods lacked animal fat. A cookbook explores Stone Hill, Vermont bed and breakfast recipes & living.
