A man stabbed a 15-year-old girl and the man who tried to stop the attack on her, in a Twin Peaks bakery on Saturday (link fixed per comments). The man, Scott Thomas, had just been released from San Quentin the day before, where he'd been in solitary confinement for attacking a guard. Thomas had been sent to San Quentin for violating the terms of his parole (which he's done 8 times since 2001 -- it looks like he went in originally on a mix of grand and petty theft-type charges). Thomas was caught by two police officers who were in the area, and who described him as covered with blood, carrying a hunting knife, and speaking and singing incoherently. The girl is improving, and the man who intervened suffered only minor injuries.
There was a shootout by the ocean over the weekend -- a man stealing a bicycle at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning near 48th and Taraval fired shots at the cops, hitting their car. The cops returned fire, but the thief fled. He was later found hiding in shrubbery by Santiago and the Great Highway around 4:45 a.m. with injuries to his hand, and taken into custody.
And yes, we have now moved to the portion of the blotter where dog bites man. A dog being rescued off a cliff at Fort Funston near the hang gliders bit the firefighter trying to rescue him/her, on the face. We know the doggie didn't mean it!

I would describe that as a "Diamond Heights bakery", since if I'm reading the map right it's the one right next to the Diamond Heights Post Office and the Safeway.
Ah yes, San Francisco's criminal justice solutions, in action! I wonder how Gavin's special delegations to New York to drink wine on the city payroll --- oh, uh, I mean, study crime control --- are going.

Wrong Creighton's. It was at Creighton's American Bakery on Portola Drive near Tower Market. That's on the edge of the Miraloma Park neighborhood near Twin Peaks. I was trying to go to the Walgreens a couple doors down on Saturday and saw the police tape, but couldn't figure out what was going on. I was surprised to read later what had happened, especially given that it's generally a very safe neighborhood. I'm glad the victim is improving.
There's two Creightons that close to each other? Sorry, my bad! I'll change the link accordingly.
For clarification purposes, the police did not apprehend Thomas singlehandedly. A witness at the scene tracked Thomas to Laguna Honda hospital, where he had sheriffs arrest Thomas. This witness was the only reason why Thomas was captured.
