Not having kids, I'm reluctant to assert that "car=kids" is a myth, but it's difficult to ignore the broad swaths of this world, rich and poor, that would seem to suggest otherwise. And I hate to bring up New York, but, well, "New York."

There are many people who live in the city with a child and no car. I have two sets of friends with 2 kids each and no car though both could easily afford one.

The only way to live in this city "carfree" is to also be child free. If you have kids, you need a car.
