Sherman, set the way-back machine to when the Cops Gone Wild video came out. Seems like the issue has reared it's ugly head again and another twist in the story has appeared. Dan Noyes is reporting that for some strange reason, out of all the cops who got in trouble for appearing in it, none of the Asian cops who appeared got in trouble. And by none, we mean nada, zilch, zip, As a result, say hello to a $20 million dollar lawsuit.
Twenty-four officers were suspended for appearing in the video, but several Asian officers weren't. And none of them were mere stand-ins -- they had lines. In two instances, they were in a group of people in the skit and everyone else got suspended except the Asian officers. The lawsuit, filed by eighteen of the twenty-four officers, claim racial discrimition in how the punishments were doled out, as well as a few other things. It's this lawsuit that could possibly lead towards Gavin having to answer questions about being all Pete Doherty-like.
Noyes is also reporting that the videos were brought to Police Chief Heather Fong's attention by Slacker hater Gary Delagnes, the San Francisco Police Officers Association President. And yes, that's a bit on the weird side. No word yet on why he was the one who ratted everybody out.

Dan Noyes has done an excellent job of pointing out the contradictions and double standards of the mayor and in typical fashion (like a spoiled child) gavin has decided not to talk to Dan anymore, actually he might be doing Dan a favor as who wants to talk to this idiot anyway. That said I support the police who are suing over the mishandling of this whole event. yes the police shouldn't have made this video and yes the skits are in poor taste and offensive, but there is not an office in America or a group of workers that don't have their own inside jokes. Gavin is a hypocrite because while what the police did is to only exercise extremely poor judgement, gavins office has overlooked the mayors own sexual harassment of a female staff person and the questionable use of city funds to pay her off, sounds like something really wrong here not just an office party joke. Hats off to Phil Ginsberg, gavins chief of staff, former city attorney and former head of the department of human resources for finding the law only works for all the other tens of thousands of city employees and not for the mayor who of course Phil depends on for his career track. Here's wishing the police officers involved well.
I am still trying to figure out Ruby Tourk’s connection to this matter. Here’s a quote from the online transcript of a Dan Noyes’ newscast of May 15, 2007, headed “SFPD Video Scandal: Cops Want Newsom Under Oath. The story includes the following reference to her name, extracted verbatim directly from the news report:
“Mayor Newsom and his press officers refused to be interviewed. His re-election campaign consultant Eric Jaye also declined to appear on camera, but told us by phone, the case will have "no political impact. Voters have already made up their minds" about the mayor's alcohol abuse and affair with Ruby Tourk, his appointments secretary and wife of close friend and advisor, Alex Tourk.”
The part about “no political impact…” is probably a quote from Eric Jaye. The rest of the statement seems to be a summary of Noyes’ conversation with Jaye, but it isn’t clear if Jaye brought up her name or if Noyes injected it for clarification or context.
In either case, what the heck does she have to do with this case anwyay? What is the purpose of inserting her name in a report about a case that looks to be totally unrelated to her without further explanation? It’s one thing if the fraternity of bloggers bandies her name around. After all, we’re just a bunch of demented anonymous attention seekers. But it’s another thing entirely if a main-stream media outlet inserts it. That’s a real attention getter and it is an easy leap for a reader or listener to assume some sort of devious connection.
This poor kid is trying to get her life back on track. She’ll soon be coming up on her 35th birthday as well as almost a year of sobriety. Her recovery won’t be helped by innuendo like this.
This is a case where governing by press release ran aground on real people.
I'm thankful for the officers who keep working, even with jerks like Newsom in power.
Only in SF can the PD do something as stupid as they did with the video and then turn around and try to sue the city. Don't they have any shame? No wonder nobody in SF respects the cops and think they are a joke. First fajitagate and now this. All of which is a shame because I know some really good people who are SFPD who get lumped in with the dumbasses responsible for this BS
and jonesy wishing the police officers involved well??? SF idiocy at it's finest. Sure screw up and now squeeze the city for money. Earl Sanders obviously taught them well
