In a very vague way, you simply described baseball. Starting pictures are usually better than relievers, relievers usually finish games because, by the definition of their role, they didn't start. Most teams average somewhere in the same area of runs per year and margins are usually 1-2 runs. One run games are not exceptional unless you are in the eviable posiiton of being on a Dynasty Team which doesnt really exist right now. Some games are pitchers duels, others offensive see-saws, and sometimes it is a blowout. In the end one nights game can't define a team or season. They are both mediocre teams. That is why they are alike. You could have abbreviated this article with "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes.... it rains" - Nuke La Loosh

The Giants are 13th in total runs scored in the majors, and 8th in the National League. They're 15th/7th in batting average and 15th/8th in slugging percentage. These aren't spectacular numbers, but they are hardly anemic.

The Giants are 5-7 in one-run games, 3-1 at home and 2-6 on the road. Of those seven losses, five have been credited to the starting pitchers. Assuming that 0.500 is a reasonable target for one-run games, that's not too shabby, since a lot of those games have come on the road.
