Day Around The Bay

--There were more bikes than cars on Market Street today for Bike To Work Day. Soon we will realize our dream where every car driver is assigned an individual biker to yell at them with a camera in hand.

--Better to be biking to work than on MUNI -- as some of you reported to us, there was a massive meltdown in the tunnel this morning when the computer system crashed. Maggie Lynch says this happens "infrequently."

--The FCC's approved the iPhone.

--They're hoping to reopen 580 by Memorial Day! Crazy! (The construction company gets a $5 million bonus if they do.) Also, that sign by the bridge is still way too bright.

--Steven Jones and Ken Garcia's email correspondence.

--Luke Thomas says conditions in local homeless shelters are really bad. The Newsom administration, through Pat Murphy, disagrees.

--YouTube's going to sponsor a Democratic candidates' debate. You know, never mind these "primaries" -- let's do the presidential debates like American Idol -- after each one, we get to vote one candidate off. Sanjaya for president!

Ken Garcia is the Peter Ragone of journalists.

Um....Luke Thomas didn't say anything about shelters, Bay City News did. I know you guys and Thomas love each other, but running wire copy and crediting the carrying and not the producer of the information is a little misleading, don't you think?

The Chron runs New York Times and Washington Post copy all the time, but does anyone credit the Chron for national and international reporting? I sure as hell hope not (no offense, Chron).

And while I'm on the topic of media:

The Guardian staff are the Chris Daley of journalists. And Pat Murphy is the biggest hack in this town, but every one already knows that.

Hey, have you been listening in to my husband's and my conversations? We had the Presidential Idol idea right after the 2nd Republican debate. Makes much more sense than the Primary, really.

Jonesy: LOVE that analogy. I'll have to remember that one.

All I want to know is, did SFBike have to pay for Newsom's bike rental again? Because if they did, that's the LAST time I'm paying dues to that organization. Giving a free bike to a friggin' millionaire so he can pretend to be earth friendly once a year. SHEESH.
