Chimpanzees For Peace!
We don't even know where to start with this news item -- we had to read the article like three times before we figured it out. Who has a pro-war protest in San Francisco???
The conservative group Move America Forward showed up at the SF Federal Building to protest Nancy Pelosi's plan to leave Iraq -- with a bunch of chimpanzees they'd rented from a Kern County animal studio. The chimps were supposed to be the "Surrender Monkeys," see?? The chimp is wearing a French beret and waving a white flag -- see?? The protestors ultimately got into the building to talk to Pelosi staffers, but had to leave the chimps outside.
Of course, since we live in San Francisco, the only message we take away from this: adorable monkeys think we need to get out of Iraq.
Postscript: The Chron has a report up about it too now: apparently Move America Forward was chased out of town by SF Animal Control, because they didn't have permits for the chimps.

Sorry to sound like a typical San Franciscan, but I feel bad for the monkeys.

I remember a group in Seattle doing something similar about a year or two back. About two dozen people showed up to rally for the war. They stopped after fifteen or twenty minutes of energetic protesting, disappointed that no one was stopping to confront them or pay them any sort of attention, really. It's hell being tolerated, I guess.
I imagine this would have gone the same way were it not for the chimps. But now they get to play fake martyr because Animal Control told them they needed permits. If the OMG WE WUZ CHASED OUT OF SAN FRANCISCO stories haven't appeared yet -- they will.
...and chimps aren't even monkeys, much less "surrender monkeys."
I too see our lying, moronic, sad excuse of a President George W. bush when I look at that chimpanzee.
Those conservatives seem to be really desperate... I feel sorry for them... How pathetic ! It is also the same bullshit : liberal = french = coward...
I am really tired, as a french with liberal tendencies, I admit it, to be called a surrender monkey by people who had never saw combat or war in their entire (pathetic) life !
For more accuracy I would add that I don't hate USA, for those who think that all french pple are usa-haters, but I really don't have any form of sympathy for them...

If you all remember, she advocates physical violence against anybody who hold political and social views that are not her own.

This woman has more testosterone than anything that can be supplied by Balco. If she is that hard core about the war why doesn't she buy a gun and go to Iraq? I would fully support that move, in fact I would buy her a plane ticket...but then she is like most far right bloviators, all speech but no personal sacrifice. With all the trouble the military is having recruiting I am wondering why these true believers don't volunteer or send their kids?

Yup. Takes far-right intelligence to think chimps are monkeys. Same intelligence that has no trouble justifying invading nations under false pretenses.
At least presumably the chimp is getting paid. And that does make for an entertaining comment on evolution.

Dear Scary Need : you're the perfect epitome of those neocons that I despise... Thank God (just a word : I am a godless yuropean :) ) most of americans aren't like you, although I must admit you're somewhat funny after all !

Seems that the neo-cons can't shake their addiction to hate the French.
What the neo-cons should seriously consider (if it is within their grasp), is that the French just elected as president a man who openly declared himself to be conservative (by French standards of course). They should also note he was elected by a wide a fair margin, unlike Bush 2.
These events prove that "anti-Americanism" is no longer a viable platform that the French can regard as a winning political strategy.
Therefore, the real question one should ask is: Is it possible, for Americans who call themselves Conservative Republicans, to ditch the lame anti-French/Hate France attitudes which have marked their political rhetoric for so long?
Personally speaking, I doubt the neo-con movememnt is capable in proving as much.
