Here's the news coverage of the accident: turns out the guy in the car made an illegal turn and hit an SFPD officer. In the balls.

The Harley Vs. Nissan. The is a Sportster.

From Rita's link: "Thoshinsky said the driver of the Nissan who appeared uninjured, was not drunk, but will likely be cited for making an illegal left turn from Market Street onto Hayes Street, where he collided with the officer."

You mean someone is this stupid sober?

The car is on Market Street making a left to Hayes --that means he's on the road closer to Walgreens than Fox Plaza - and is making a turn to Hayes ... what? thru the little lane between the pedestrian island and the sidewalk? No, the photo looks like the driver tried to maximize potential collisions and was going to swing around in front of Ananda Fuara. Which is like an illegal left turn, homicidal u-turn combo.

This, plus the weather, makes me want to curl up indoors -- and stay there.

I read the same story.Even though I was only on the scene after hearing sadden screams out my window. This intersection has been a brutal one both foe vehicle's,pedestrians, and bicycles getting wack by buses.

anyone who hits a pig is okay in my book.

The suburbanites seem to do this a lot along this stretch.

Yeah, keep telling us how we can "all share" the city streets together. If sharing means getting your ass run over or almost run over by some selfish cell-phone talking car driver, I guess you are right.

I'm sure the driver was doing nothing wrong until the cop threw his motorcycle under the car.

This happens every single damned day to me on my Vespa. Every single damned day. Human life is less important than parking spaces in San Francisco, because drivers can't be bothered to check their blind spots, use a signal or consider not breaking the law by pulling a U turn over a double lined street.

I expect to die in this manner, or at least lose an arm. If I survive, I look forward to suing the shit out of the individual responsible, as well as the city for pathetic traffic enforcement.

Have fun parking, you shitty drivers. And oh yeah, don't bother using your signal, we're all psychic on the road, didn't you know?
