It's Got to Be the Morning After

Royals 2 A's 1- So who is this Jack Cust and where the hell did he come from? He's from New Jersey and was drafted in '97 by the Dbacks. He then went from Arizona to Colorado to Baltimore and to San Diego and his only major accomplishment in the bigs up until this past week was tripping on the basepaths during a rundown when he was on the Orioles.

All along, he was known for being a masher but was lousy at D and struck out way too much. Major league scouts said he was too Dave Kingman-like and so he stayed mainly in the minors, a Crash Davis like figure. But Cust also walked a lot and had a decent OBP and when Mike Piazza went down a lightbulb went off in Billy Beane's head.

Oh, and his dad runs a baseball academy.

As for last night's game, the A's lost on a ninth inning home run by John Buck.
