Brainiac Receives Award For Braininess About Brains

Weiner-Pinao.jpg

We've got mad science going on in the city by the bay. Sometimes it gets acknowledged.

Michael Weiner, MD, a professor of radiology, medicine, psychiatry, and neurology at UCSF, has won the VA's most prestigious bio-science prize, the William S. Middleton Award.

Weiner, who is also the director of the Center for the Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, will receive $150,000 over three years to support his research, aloing with a cash award of $5,000. Specifically, he's being honored for his "exemplary service to the VA and to the biomedical profession” and his contributions to the field of clinical magnetic resonance imaging. He's working on multiple brain-related issues, including Alzheimer’s, traumatic injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and more.

(Evidently, he plays the piano as well, according to that picture we found on a staff page).

Congrats Dr. Weiner!

Congratualtions Dr. Weiner. I hope someday they name an award after you. I would die to win the Wiener Award.
