Funny, the last time I checked -- when I made my first comment, the first eight pictures on the SFIst Flickr page are of the proposed shelters and coverings.

The french toilets are a separate contract, but one of the companies hired the same architect to create one shelter design which would compliment the toilets (and the news kiosks) while one of the others has a design which would compliment them as well. The third company didn't indicate they were going to do anything to work with other street furniture like the toilets or light posts, but I didn't specifically ask so they may well have thought about it as well. The subway entrances serve a functional purpose besides making them more visible and placing NextMuni signs, they shelter the escalators, which will bring down maintenance costs and make them more reliable.

It is problematic that sfist is focusing on one company involved in the process. It is my understanding that there are actually several pitching designs to the city. I know that this little blog has no real obligation to be so "fair and balanced." But the more you continue to do so, the more you lose the respect of the readers.

Alex: Um... gee. I read a post that promises a link to models of new bus shelters and all there is is 2 photos of the MAYOR looking at tiny little shelters. How DARE i be disappointed. You are so right. I see that NOW there are pix of the models themselves. It was very silly of me to have expected those pix to be there when the post was put up initially. Silly silly silly. I'm glad you advised me to this new SFist policy. I will start waiting at least 2 hrs before following any links here to make sure they are up and running. Or do you suggest more lead time?
