We've got some awesome pix of the shelterpalooza, courtesy of SFist_Jim. He's color-tweaking the batch right now, but you can check out a preview over on our Flickr account. The latest news from Muni is that they won't be posting their own photos of the shelters on Monday; there've been some unexpected delays, y'see. Unthinkable!
Did you check out the shelters on display yesterday and today? What are your thoughts?

Gee, thanks SFist. Those were some great photos of the mayor. It's too bad you didn't include any good close-up photos of THE SHELTER MODELS THEMSLEVES. Jesus, is that too much to ask? We already know what Newsome looks like.
The name is "Newsom."
Seriously, though. Survivor is right. Why are you all obsessed with the Mayor? Secret crush, perhaps? It seems you never fail to mention or depict him whenever possible, whether it's relevant to the story or not.
Seriously, though. You guys are either way impatient, unable to read, or unable to follow links. Sheesh.
Matty- you are so cute. Do you ever go to underwear night at daddy's (or whatever it's called now) mondays?
I am far too modest. (And don't let Gordon Hinckley hear you talking like that!)
Alex:
Um... gee. I read a post that promises a link to models of new bus shelters and all there is is 2 photos of the MAYOR looking at tiny little shelters. How DARE i be disappointed. You are so right.
I see that NOW there are pix of the models themselves. It was very silly of me to have expected those pix to be there when the post was put up initially. Silly silly silly. I'm glad you advised me to this new SFist policy. I will start waiting at least 2 hrs before following any links here to make sure they are up and running. Or do you suggest more lead time?
Matty:
Does this mean those French-public toilets are being replaced as well?
The toilets are here for the long term, I'm afraid. San Francisco has no shortage of material for them, as we can see.
It is problematic that sfist is focusing on one company involved in the process. It is my understanding that there are actually several pitching designs to the city.
I know that this little blog has no real obligation to be so "fair and balanced." But the more you continue to do so, the more you lose the respect of the readers.
We wouldn't want that.
The french toilets are a separate contract, but one of the companies hired the same architect to create one shelter design which would compliment the toilets (and the news kiosks) while one of the others has a design which would compliment them as well.
The third company didn't indicate they were going to do anything to work with other street furniture like the toilets or light posts, but I didn't specifically ask so they may well have thought about it as well.
The subway entrances serve a functional purpose besides making them more visible and placing NextMuni signs, they shelter the escalators, which will bring down maintenance costs and make them more reliable.
Here are my pictures from Thursday of all the shelters on display:

Oh jeez now I feel like a giant dork for not noticing the previous post mentioning my link. In my defense, I am battling what is either a nasty onrush of hay fever or a mild flu. Sorry. :)
Funny, the last time I checked -- when I made my first comment, the first eight pictures on the SFIst Flickr page are of the proposed shelters and coverings.
Hmm. It's up to 19 pictures of the proposed shelters now. Still agitated?
