It's Thursday-- Do You Know Where Your Baseball Team Is
Lew Wolff announced today that he's signed an agreement to purchase 168 acres of land in Fremont to build the new A's stadium and requisite development. What this means, essentially, is the A's are one step closer to moving to the 'burbs. Just call 'em the Soccer Mom Team.
It's not a done deal, however, as the A's still have to submit an application to build everything. Fremont will then make a final decision once the application is sent in and they have sufficient time to study it, but right now, Wolff hasn't quite put the finishing touches on whatever he's planning on doing.
On Tuesday, the A's recently released a study saying that their new stadium and development could bring in $109 million dollars annually to the Fremont area http://www.sfist.com/archives/2007/04/11/its_wednesday_do_you_know_where_your_favorite_football_team_is.php (monorail!). As we all know, studies mean whatever the person who sponsors the study says it is, but it's a pretty good guess that baseball stadiums bring in more revenue than football stadiums. How much is open to debate
