it's Got to Be the Morning After
First, the bad news...
Jazz 116 Warriors 112- The Warriors pixie dust ran out towards the end of the game as they dropped their first game of their improbable second round series with the Jazz. This was the game they could, and should, have won as the Jazz just played a Game 7 on Saturday night. In fact, the Warriors not only had the Jazz playing their kind of game-- high scoring-- but led throughout much of the game but couldn't quite put the Jazz away. The Dubs were ahead with a few minutes left in the game but went cold towards the end of the game, just as the Jazz got hot. The key to the game was rebounds as the Jazz killed the Warriors on the boards, 54-36 with Carlos Boozer getting twenty of them.
Red Wings 2 Sharks 0- Oh Sharkies, wha' happened? Yet another promising season goes down the drain as the Sharks played their biggest game of the season at their beloved home, the Shark Tank, and couldn't do it. At all. The Wings scored two in the first period and the Sharks went down somewhat meekly. Besides the fact this was supposed to be the team that took the Sharks to the Promised Land (the conference finals), this loss hurts because the Sharks had the lead in games 2 and 4.
And, now, the one spot of good news...
Giants 9 Mets 4- Let us now sing the praises of Bengie Molina, an offseason pickup that elicited merely a yawn, if that. Bengie has been nothing sort of spectacular so far and is quickly becoming a fan favorite for a knack of somehow getting a big hit whenever the Giants needed a big hit. In this game, he had two big hits-- in the same inning. In a nine run fifth inning, Bengie hit two-- two!-- home runs, something that a Giant hasn't done since Wllie McCovey in 1977. That inning (which also included some shoddy Mets' D and Richie's first HR of the season) was enough for the win as the pitching staff did just enough to hold the Mets from having a big inning, despite all their efforts.
