Another Textmarkular Update

textmarks.png
Those NextMuni LED signs are popping up at shelters so fast we can hardly keep track of them! (And neither can Muni, apparently -- we asked for a map of NextMunied shelters, but according to sources, no such thing exists.) But what do you do if there's no LED sign in sight? Or if you're down the street from a shelter, hanging out with friends or enemies, and you want to know when to say goodbye and stroll down the street to hop on a once-an-hour bus?

Fear not: simply create a Textmark so you can get arrival times via SMS. Check our handy guide to existing marks after the jump, and you'll never be caught waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting ever again. Post new marks in the comments as you create them!

(For more details on Textmarks, and instructions for setting up one of your own, check our last post on the subject. the ACTUAL instructions.)

uhh.... more detailed instructions please - following the links the only "directions" i can find are, paraphrasing: go set it up.

i tried at the textmark site but when i preview the message, i can't get it to capture the predictions, just random other bits of the nextbus prediction page. (and yes, i'm trying to use bracketing.)

that skot9000 guy did do a lot of work setting it up, but i can't store a bunch of ready-to-go texts for the future using his system because i'd have no way of knowing whether "Nextbus 685" or "Nextbus 715" or whatever is the particular nextbus prediction i need.

Sorry, that link should've pointed here. The instructions are:

Here's how it works: you sign up with TextMarks, and then show TextMarks the website that you want them to send to your phone. In the above example, we grabbed the text from a PDA-friendly prediction, which you can't get to from NextMuni site but you can hack into thanks to RescueMuni. (You can also use Skot9000's awesome NextMuni hack, if RescueMuni's isn't working.) Then, you just create a keyword -- in the above example, 2216HARRISONIN is the keyword, representing a prediction for the 22 stop at 16th and Harrison, inbound. And then you're done! Just text your keyword to TextMarks at 41411, and in a few seconds, you'll get a reply with your arrival times.

cool, thanks, got it. now officially active:

22 Fillmore - 20th and 3rd Inbound: 2220TH3RDIN
22 Fillmore - 16th and Mission Outbound: 2216MISSIONOUT
22 Fillmore - Haight and Fillmore Outbound: 22FILLHAIGHTOUT
22 Fillmore - Church and Duboce Outbound: **Wouldn't let me add, too many on my acct**
T Thrid - 23rd and 3rd Outbound (Castro): T3RD23THIN
T Third - Powell Station Inbound (Sunnydale): TPOWELLIN

I think i can edit them if i did it wrong, so if anyone checks my work here and it is wrong, let me konw an d i'll change it. if someone could add the 22 Fillmore Duboce and Church Outbound stop, i'd be your best friend for a month.

fudge, i f'd one up - I named "T Third 23rd and 3rd Outbound" T3RD23THIN which is the wrong direction. it should be T3RD23THOUT. I redirected the textmark to look up the inbound (sunnydale) times for that stop/textmark. but i want the OUTBOUND times for that stop, so if anyone could add that, i'd appreciate it.

I think calling 311 is a lot easier.

304MARKETIN - 30 Stockton - 4th & Market inbound (to Caltrain)
3SUTTERPOWOUT - 3 Jackson - Sutter & Powell outbound (to Presidio Heights)

24CASTROMARKOUT - 24 Divisadero - Castro & Market outbound (to Bayview)
24CASTROMARKIN - 24 Divisadero - Castro & Market inbound (to Pacific Heights)
