SFist Blotter

blotter427.JPGRunning a little late today!

Here's today's story of awesomeness! You know Project Prom, the protest where teenage girls dress in prom dresses and combat boots to support safe cosmetics in Union Square? (We' might be getting some pictures of it, and if you have any, tag 'em SFist on Flickr!) Well, one girl was at Tuesday's protest in a silver prom dress, tiara, and boots when a group of three guys raced by and stole her friend's purse and another person's laptop. The teen then took off after the guys and chased them for seven blocks while yelling for the police. She caught up with two of the guys and grabbed one of them, at which point he started to cry. Awesome! She and a bystander found the purse, but the guy with the laptop got away.

One of the four victims in the rape trial of Oakland City Council President Ignacio de la Fuente's son, Ignacio de la Fuente Jr., took the stand on Thursday. It sounds like the defense spent much of the day claiming the victim (who was 15 years old at the time of the crime) is a prostitute, which she denies. de la Fuente Jr. has admitted he picks up prostitutes in the Fruitvale District, and admits that he had sex with two of the victims in the trial, but claims those two sexual encounters were consensual.

And it was kind of a grim day in the news: a murder-suicide in Santa Cruz and a man fell off a building in downtown Oakland.

We cannot make the KTVU video work, so this is the only picture we have of the crime-fighting prom girl.
