Sharks 2 Wings 0- It's something you always hear said on the sports gab fests, that a series doesn't really begin until the home team is beaten at home. All of which means this series is now on. The Sharkies rode some major D-Fence to shut out the Wings in their own building, as Nabby stopped thirty-four shots. To win the game, the Sharks scored two goals within .24 seconds of each other in the first period, the first on a power play. The rest of the game was your typical "man the barricade" game in which the Sharks held and held and held against the charging Wings. Next game is Saturday.
Giants 5 Dodgers 4- It is amazing what an eight game winning streak and a sweep of the Dodgers does for the soul. The sun is a little brighter. Salsa is a little zestier, "Lost" a little less confusing. In other words, all is right in the world. Even better, your first place (yes, they're tied for first place) Giants are on their way to Arizona with the two big guys-- Zito and Cain-- up next in the rotation. See, that's what winning streaks do to you, all of a sudden, everything seems possible. Even an unhittable Armando Benitez.
Yes, we forgot the A's for which we apologize. Besides, they lost last night and we wouldn't want to bring everyone down from an amazing run of Bay Area sports.

Go Sharks! They stayed a step ahead of Detroit and really kept them in check. If they keep this up, they'll win this series easily.
The Fish got those quick goals in the 1st, and then seemed to hold back a lot in the 2nd and most of the 3rd. Their D was good enough to keep most of the shots from the perimeter, but Nabokov shouldn't be buying his own drinks for a while.
Then in the last 5 minutes of the 3rd, the Sharks then remembered that they're a puck control team, and really dictated the play. They frustrated the Wings by picking off passes in the neutral zone, and forechecked like mad.
The best part, at least for me? How pissed the Wings fans were at the Kilowatt after the final buzzer. Such sweet, sweet music. But, the Sharks have to win 3 more before we gloat too much.
I have never seen such a low energy playoff game.
The sharks took the lead and then applied a sleeper hold on the game. The usually loud and supportive red wings crowd sounded like they were attending a funeral, not a playoff game.
Kudos to the sharks for shutting down the wings, but they better be able to pick up the intensity. They looked slow and unmotivated for the majority of the game.
