It's Got to Be the Morning After

Mavericks 112 Warriors 99- Well, that didn't go well. Not well at all. After spending the last few days joking around, being all loosey-goosey, and making noise that they were in the Mavs' heads, it was the Warriors who lost their cool. At the end of the third quarter, Baron Davis got himself ejected and towards the end of the fourth quarter, Stephen Jackson joined him in the locker room. With two of their big dogs down, the Warriors couldn't muster any sort of rally against the Mavs. Not that they could have done much as the Mavs suddenly remembered they were the #1 seed and not the #8 seed. This game hurts, not the least of which is the fact that it kind of gets rid of that weird feeling of invincibility that the Warriors had over the Mavs. Everyone now knows the Mavs can beat them. And admit it, Warriors fans-- when the Warriors had the lead through much of the first quarter, y'all had visions of 2-0 dancing in your heads. But, no.

Giants 6 Dodgers 4- And we're at 7. Remember how bad the Giants were the opening week? Remember how everyone panicked (not us, of course)? Well, it's amazing what a seven game winning streak can do. And just look at what's happening-- Bonds is in a groove, the bullpen (even Armando) is suddenly lights out, the defense has been stellar, and Dave Roberts has been a bit of an offensive fireplug. It's exactly how it was laid out in Brian Sabean's wildest dreams. This game didn't see the usual sharp pitching job by one of the starters as Noah Lowry gave up four runs in 6 2/3 innings but with the way the rest of the team played, he didn't need to be that sharp.

Mariners 2 A's 0- The problem with not having that much of an offense and having to rely on starting pitching is that sometimes you come upon starting pitching better than your starting pitching. Which is what happened to the A's. The A's, once again, got great starting pitching (this time from Joe Blanton) but couldn't score a run off of old foe Jarrod Washburn. Of course, it would help if they had more people healthy as Nick Swish and Bobby Kielty sat with minor injuries. Still, the A's continue on with their streak of not giving up more than three runs a game, which is now at 19.
