It's Got to Be the Morning After

sp_sharks3.jpgSharks 3 Predators 2- SFist did something we haven't done in a long time-- watched a hockey game. Well, the last period at least. For those who've never watched playoff hockey, it's great fun. The sport is already pretty intense with it's speed and occasional bouts of violence and the intensity is turned up several notches during the playoffs. Especially when one is facing elimination. Other than a minute of action, when the Predators scored both of their goals, the Sharks won this game rather handily. Everytime the Predators tried to set up for a shot on goal, somebody on the Sharks threw their body at somebody else , keeping the Predators from getting much in the way of a shot. At one point, the Sharkies were short-handed in a 4-3 situation and once again, the Predators couldn't get anything going. Just great defense.

The Sharks are now on their way to the Western Conference semi-finals.

Giants 4 DBacks 2- When this year's team was put together, the thinking supposedly was that the team was going to put together around pitching, mainly starting pitching. If the team were to win, the starting pitching would have to be great. If they weren't great, the team would be sunk. Well, the starting pitching for the Giants has been great and now that they're getting a little offense (helped out by some bad defense by the DBacks), the team is playing good ball. In fact, if they win today, they will be at .500. And Russ Ortiz, the winning pitcher and a man who is being paid by the DBacks, is looking like a pretty steady pitcher. Having your fifth starter be a pretty steady pitcher is a good little thing. If there was one issue with last night's game, it would have to be with Armando Benitez who was way too wild out there and walked two batters to somehow earn a save. Benitez made things way too exciting in a game that didn't call for it.

A's 16 Rangers 4- Finally, a laugher. The A's beat their former base coach with an eight run second inning started by Travis Buck’s three run double. Buck later hit a two-run homerun, giving him five RBIs for the game. Also joining the cavalcade of runs was Shannon Stewart (4 RBIs) and Bobby Crosby (3 for 4). Joe Blanton got the win.
