Gunshots on Market Street! Around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, the SFPD had to close down Market between 8th and 9th after a guy in a white car and another guy in a darker car traded shots. The guy in the white car jumped out and started yelling at the people in the darker car; the darker car tried to make a U but was (of course) blocked by the F-Market trolley, and the guy from the white car pulled out a gun from his waistband and fired five shots into the darker car as it sped off. The shooter then jumped onto the back of the white car as it sped down Larkin, with him hanging onto the trunk. Tourists were horrified, and the SFPD didn't get there until everyone had left the scene.
There's some intra-neighborhood tension in West San Jose, after a neighbor, whom the rest of the neighborhood said was yakking on a cell phone and driving on the wrong side of the street at about 35-40 mph, hit and killed the neighborhood's beloved Australian shepherd dog, Tucker (check out his dogster page). The neighbor says all those allegations are untrue, and the cops said there wasn't anything they can do, but the neighborhood has created a memorial to Tucker in the middle of the street and hung a sign up that says "SLOW DOWN, SAVE LIVES."
And a 25-year-old man from San Ramon is in a coma after a beating early Wednesday morning after he left the SoMa club Club NV. Before the beating, three alleged gang members followed him and asked him "Who you claiming and what are you repping?," which CBS 5 says is a common gang phrase. When the victim said "Oakland," the three men attacked him from behind and kicked him repeatedly after he fell to the ground. The three attackers are suspected to be East Bay gang members, with one described as blond with a crew cut and 6 feet tall, while one other was wearing a Giants jersey with the number 3 on the back.
