Leon Trotsky Previews the Upcoming Baseball Season
So with baseball starting up this week, we thought we'd turn over the previews to our favorite revolutionary, Leon Trotsky. Coming up, quotes that he thinks sum up the season and Leon's predictions.
You may not be interested in strategy, but strategy is interested in, you.
To a man we are told is the smartest man in baseball, Tony LaRussa, who finally overcame years of being the most annoying and most overrated manager in baseball to not choke and win a non-earthquake related World Championship.
Where force is necessary, there it must be applied boldly, decisively and completely. But one must know the limitations of force; one must know when to blend force with a maneuver, a blow with an agreement.
The Phillies, Mets and Indians all have kick-ass offenses yet questionable pitching. Didn't Marx say that good pitching beats good hitting everytime? Or was that Stengel.
Fascism is nothing but capitalist reaction.
Fascism comes out of a result of the failures of capitalism. True socialism could never approcah fascism because the fate of the working class is in their hands. Sort of like the collective bargaining agreement.
“Technique is noticed most markedly in the case of those who have not mastered it.”
Supposedly, the Detroit Tigers pitchers spent a lot of time this spring training learning how to cover the bag.
Insurrection is an art, and like all arts has its own laws.
To the Twins and A's who show them all how it's done and are starting to influence the bigger teams more than the bigger teams influence the smaller ones. The Red Sox are a Moneyball team (with a huge budget) and the Yanks are even developing a farm system.
Life is beautiful, enjoy it to the fullest.
It's baseball season!
Man will become immeasurably stronger, wiser, and subtler; his body will become more harmonious, his movements more rhythmic, his voice more musical. The forms of life will become dynamically dramatic. The average human type will rise to the heights of an Aristotle, a Goethe, or a Marx. And above these heights, new peaks will rise.
Even Marxists don't mind steroids.
“You are pitiful isolated individuals; you are bankrupts; your role is played out. Go where you belong from now on / into the dustbin of history!”
Hey, it's been almost seven years since the Yankees won the Series, all this despite a $200 million payroll. Isn't that sweet?
“Dialectical materialism is not of course an eternal and immutable philosophy. To think otherwise is to contradict the spirit of the dialectic. Further development of scientific thought will undoubtedly create a more profound doctrine into which dialectical materialism will enter merely as structural material.”
Don't bunt a base runner over with one out already in the inning unless it's late in the game.
