Bring on the Bio Diesel Buses
The SFPUC has a nifty little idea to help the city go green and that is to turn all the leftover grease from city restaurant's into biodiesel fuel for diesel buses. It’s the proverbial killing two birds with one stone proposal as it will prevent grease from making a mess in the sewage system while helping the environment. All of this is part of what's called a B20 plan which states that it would be super swell if we use a formula of 80% gas and 20% biodiesel.
How this will work is that the city will buy two trucks, hire a bunch of drivers, and go around the city collecting grease. Talk about a fun job. According to the SFPUC, around 1 million gallons of biodiesel fuel could come from San Francisco's 2,600-plus restaurants-- that's a lot of grease. And if we remember our Fight Club, whatever we don't need could be used for liposuction.
Maybe that could help that so-called budget shortfall Gavin has been talking about?
