Since this rumor is getting a lot of play these days, it's time to do the Official SFist post on it and that is the Danny Glover for Mayor rumors. The rumors supposedly started on SFJunto and have been picked up by progressives as something doable and even kind of exciting. Hell, somebody has to run against Gavin. The thinking is he'd make perfect candidate because he's a noted lefty (he was so virulently anti-apartheid that he killed a bunch of South Africans diplomats), lives in San Francisco, and is a star, baby, a star. Hell, if Arnie could be governor and Fred Thompson the sudden leading Republican Presidential candidate based on his appearing on "Law and Order" why not Danny? The Examiner has him at 450-1 odds that he's running.
Now the rumor was debunked earlier by Luke Thomas on Fog City who said it was a ploy to take heat off the Matt Gonzalez bandwagon. Matier & Ross, however, contacted Danny's publicist who gave the of "we don't have any comment at this time" comment which should make everyone go "hmmm...." The biggest drum beater of the Danny For Mayor drum beat appears to be H. Brown who has been banging that drum for weeks.
We look forward to him running for Mayor, if he indeed does, if only to see the celebrity guests he'll have campaign for him. We'd totally love to see Mel Gibson show up but sadly, we think we'd only get Sean Penn.

Last night Danny appeared at East Tennessee University in Johnson City, Tennessee sharing in a recitation of the works of Martin Luther King and Langston Hughes. Gavin? He was busy selling out Bay View blacks to the Redevelopment Agency of which he appoints every single, 'Dedicated Negro-Removal' member.
