Hot Stuff: Food Section Round Up
We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. These are our favorite tidbits from today's offerings.
SF Chronicle: Amanda Gold cleans house and puts her cupboard's "hidden gems" to good use. Our fave recipe is for steak & pinto beans with red chile sauce. Of course, the sauce can also go on eggs, quesadillas, or with an avocado salad. Mr. Farmer Brown Jay Foster dons a b-ball cap semi-sideways (the pic says it all) to make chicken and dumplings. If you have flour, boneless chicken, and some butter, you are on your way. Macaroons take center stage for Passover dessert.
San Jose Mercury News: More macaroon analysis and recipes. We'll withold judgement for once and try some chocolate mayonnaise cake because the word moist is used over and over to describe it.
Contra Costa (CoCo) Times: Silicone bakeware is critiqued. One baking pro doesn't seem to like it but we've had some success baking breads in it; the release (getting the baked good out after it's baked) factor rocks. Time for leeks! Hot tip: soak before cooking, to get all that dirt and grit out. Bivalve report: the oyster industry makes a slow comeback.
