OMG! I just finished reading the Sentinel (www.sanfranciscosentinel.com) and I nearly barfed all over my computer. I totally give props to Brian P. for being a hardworking campaigner for Gavin Newsom. There is just a small, small problem (aside from the ditsy interviewer CB Catherine Bigelow should sue for infringment) ACT LOCALLY SF was / is an Alex Tourk idea plain and simple. The site was beta in January that is why all the articles and blogs are up PUHLESSE I can not nor will I ever give Gavin Newsom "credit" for this rather unseemly monstroncity on the web.

It's not Muni's fault that there's traffic blocking the busses -- it's the DPT's fault. Both Muni and the DPT are run by the MTA. And whoever's fault it is, I think it would be difficult to find anyone who claims that Muni couldn't stand to be faster and more on-time. The shortfall is a projection. A projection derived from an abundance of data andthe consensus of experts. If you don't mind PDFs, the report does a good job of graphing Muni's problems over the last few years.

I think it is kind of odd to blame Muni for congestion caused by car drivers and double parkers, but I guess that Muni is in fact slower. Maybe 1% a year was such a slow rate of decline that I had not noticed it, but I routinely time my commute, so I can say that my short trip to BART has not gotten any longer. NextBus has helped keep me from having to wait for the bus, too, so from my perspective things have gotten better. I do take BART downtown instead of the J-Church though, since it is about 5 minutes faster and a bit more reliable, so there you go. But I have done that from the start. I can't imagine how Muni could be as fast as BART. The "Billion Dollar Shortfall" is a projection. You do understand that, right?

Okay Jaime W, get this part and get it good. You have a problem. Either you are obsessed with spotting Chris Daly supporters at a PUBLIC COMMUNITY MEETING or you are a Gavin Newsom website supporter. Either way, I am not throwing poo at you because you are covered in so much shit becuase of your own BS I don't need to. Three years! Three Years for NextMuni b/c NextBus name was copyrighted already tells me one thing...What did he do the previous three years about Muni..mmmmm. Oh and Gay Marriage has nothing to with MUNI that is a fact. Read it and weep. Three Years don't you think the people on the J Church, Third Street lightrail or even the L have waited long enough???? And don't get me started about the Presidio bus service now one has to live there and there is a fee but no collection box to pay the fee ...wtf? with that????

In what way is Muni declining? I have been riding it for 15 years and while I noticed a definite slide in the early years of Slick Willie's reign, it improved in the latter half and has been about steady since then. To me at least. Do you have anything other than your opinion to back up your position?

Any monkey can sit around and throw their poo at others. An incumbent with Mayor Newsom's approval really has very little incentive to open up his campaign web site to input from folks (granted, he's capturing e-mail addresses that can come in handy later). Read the comments - mostly folks providing honest feedback for things that concern them in their community. Meanwhile, Aaron Peskin (CC'd on a message) replied within minutes of one I sent on a Sunday night in regards to pedestrian safety and Tom Ammiano has actually phoned the next day. Chris Daly is like Hillary Clinton - he's obsessed with what he can do for Chris Daly under the guise of helping the citizens. Talk is cheap ....

I'm the Director of Engineering at NextBus and want to clarify the situation. All of the Muni routes will indeed be covered by the NextBus system by August of this year. The work is fully funded and well underway and Muni is definitely committed to the schedule. The 400 number that mayor referred to is the number of signs that NextBus will be installing as part of the rollout.

Guys, Give Gavin some credit on Muni. His main influence on the MTA is via appointment of board members, and unlike Willie who mainly appointed hacks, he has appointed strong, pro-transit people. Since 2004 he has appointed: Peter Mezey Tom Nolan Leah Shahum Cameron Beach This is a majority of people who actually know what they are talking about on transit issues - particularly Leah who has led the Bicycle Coalition for years. All this whining about question time and extramarital affairs is nice and all, but in the areas where the mayor actually has some influence, he is doing some good. Now all of that being said, WTF is taking Nextbus so long?!

Pogo - Thanks for the compliment. I do respect the work of Luke Thomas and Chris Daly. The fact that you would associate me with them is praise. But paid? Nope. Ad hominem. You should look it up. By the way, did you want to address the topic of this post? His name is Gavin Newsom. He is paid to do a job here in San Francisco. And by many accounts, his own included, has at least stumbled a bit if not completely fallen down on the job. Even The Chronicle hasn't managed to avoid noticing and reporting it. What do you think? Did you read the post or are you just attacking those that comment?

Jamie W. You want me to give Gavin Christopher Newsom credit for his website. Lets review the facts. The color scheme is horrible The Start your own blog has a distinct 'point of view' slant to it not where an ordinary citizen (Like ME) could start an unbias blog about what they (personally or professionally) find right or wrong with the City. The titles of other media outlets like "Mean but Funny" SFist banner or touchtone titles about other media is arrogant and hubris at best I won't drone on any further, but if Gavin Christopher Newsom is the designer, architech of that website I won't be so callous as to give him quote unquote credit.

It would be great if Gavin used that campaign site to open up to actual 2-way communications, but that isn't what seems to be happening. It seems to be just a gussied-up archive for press releases. As in the above video, peoples' questions are left unanswered, deflected with carefully crafted talking points that are only marginally related to what the voter had asked.

Are you supportive of him being in town doing his job instead of flying to all over the country and world raising campaign funds? Give him some credit - his www.ActLocallySF.org web site opening up to actual 2-way communications, inviting comments from San Franciscans on what they want to see fixed in the City, is a brave move by an incumbent who has a pretty good lock on re-election. I applaud the gesture .... and look forward to more of it. As voters, we have to remember that we're the "Board of Directors" and need to be active in the governing of our City. Now if we can just get rid of some the crackpot on the Board of Supervisors Jake "How can I waste City time and funds today?" McGoldrick and Mr. Chris "I want to shake my thing at the White House instead of paying attention to problems in the City" Daly, we'd really be making some strides. :)

Lastly, as disturbing as the blue tie obsession is, has anyone else noticed that the top of Gavin's hair is two shades lighter brown than previously. Seriously, just look at the before and after pics on flickr from the beginning of March to now Gavin went and got his hair colored...what a SCANDAL that is!!!! OH!
