people, these are, and never were meant to be, anything like a real court. that's the whole point! key word? VOLUNTARY. it's staffed by volunteers. you volunteer to meet with whoever you have the conflict with, they also volunteer to meet you too, you both volunteer to adhere to some mutually satisfactory agreement. and when it's over and you say, fuck off now, that's voluntary too. calling it "court" endlessly confuses people who need real solutions to assholes behaving badly, not a group hug.

There is such a thing as due process and I believe that the community court that Gavy babby proposes wouldn't hold up to the States penal code.

I laughed heartily at your description of the SF "version" of court. If parents used the same tactics in disciplinig their kids, it would be total chaos: "son, your curfew is 11, give or take 3 hours...and only if it suits your needs.."

They should put a judge in an RV and park it on Lower Haight. It would save a lot of travel time.
