Hot Stuff: Food Section Round Up

We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. These are our favorite tidbits from today's offerings.

SF Chronicle: For Da Bears: Marlena Spieler's barley lima soup ends up eaten by a bear, grrrrr! Are we alone in being both amused and scared by that bear-riffic illustration? Filtered water is all the rage, in a sustainable trend started by Incanto and Poggio. Velvety Foamy Chocolate in a Cup sounds sexy and divine but seems better suited to winter.

San Jose Mercury News: Cal State University San Jose -- or is it still SJSU? -- students take over the Fairmont one night a week for a hospitality course. One attempted dish from their outing: paratha, which are thin Indian flour crepes. Freezer food questions are answered.

Contra Costa (CoCo) Times: Celebrating Persian New Year means dishes that start with the letter "s", and a plethora of sweets, herbs, fruits and vegetables. Interesting snack ideas when you can't pack fruit or nuts (our usual standby).
