SFist Blotter
So as we were heading to the Opera Plaza movie theater for the SFIAAFF yesterday around 5:45 p.m., we noticed a huge number of helicopters overhead and wondered what was up. Turns out there was a huge fire on Page Street that started around 5:15 p.m.. One person jumped to escape the fire (no word on that person's condition), one firefighter had to jump onto the roof of the adjacent building to escape smoke, and one person's cat is missing. 125 firefighters were called in and put out the fire by 6:30. The investigation team suspects arson.
The SPCA is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the return of Tai, a rat terrier who was kidnapped by four men last Sunday in their early 20s, who pulled up to the shelter in an gray or silver four door sedan. Two men then entered the shelter, grabbed Tai, and took off. Unfortunately, they were caught pretty clearly on the SPCA security camera. Partial picture of the perps to your right; and here's full size pictures from the camera and a picture of Tai. Call (415) 740-3287 if you have any information. Tai is described as white with a brown head, and "very vocal."
And in what passes as a heartwarming story out here on the hard-boiled Blotter, a would-be car parts thief was apprehended after he tried to sell stolen car parts back to the original owner. The owner, a man in Fremont, grew suspicious when he saw an ad on Craigslist offering for sale the exact same car parts that had been stolen from his car two weeks earlier -- a front spoiler, a tachometer, and a speaker box for a Honda. The Craigslist seller claims he bought the parts from someone else who he didn't know. Police are now trying to find this mysterious stranger.
